Gibsons 2022 in review & looking forward to 2023!
Where did the year go?
It’s been a whirlwind of a year at Gibsons, from new product launches, the relaunch of a special classic games…it’s certainly been a busy 12 months.
2022 brought lots of new product releases:
We released two charity puzzles; Just Like Us and Great Ormond Street, for each of these special puzzles we donated 25p of each sale to their charity as well as a £4000 up front donation to each.
The Gibsons Book Club
It’s no secret that we’re a bunch of book readers at Gibson's; this year, we decided to launch our own Book Club puzzle series, including Sherlock Holmes, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. From the streets of London and getting lost in the world of Sherlock Holmes to the iconic scene of Jane Austen's ‘Emma’ and ‘Pride & Prejudice, we’ve lost ourselves in the Book Club puzzles this year. Have you taken a look at these yet?
Christmas Jigsaw Advent Calendar
For the 5th year in a row, the Gibsons Christmas Jigsaw Advent Calendar has become a bit of a staple of every puzzler at Christmas. This year, the talented Claire McElfatrick illustrated our advent calendar, taking you on a daily festive journey through different Christmas scenes. We’ve been hanging our puzzles on the tree, ready for the big day.
Our environmental impact
This past year one of our main goals was to become greener in every aspect of our business. We are working hard on becoming B-Corp certified and on our journey towards this goal we partnered with One Tribe. One Tribe connects Gibsons Games directly to rainforest protection charities through the platform so every sale can directly donate and protect rainforests and the indigenous tribes and biodiversity that call them home. The rainforest charities then fund on-the-ground projects to save and continually protect the land.
We had already made huge strides forward with our Green Plan, with changes positively impacting our people, the environment, and our local community. So far, we have planted 204,020 trees and this number is growing by the minute.
One of our biggest achievements of the year is Kingmaker: The Royal Relaunch. In September we saw the relaunch of the classic board game. Within just 20 hours of launching our Kickstarter campaign it had been fully funded! An incredible achievement but it didn’t stop there, the final total of the campaign was £110,371 meaning the campaign was funded by 122%! Thank you so much to everyone who supported the campaign. Kingmaker: The Royal Relaunch will be available in Spring 2023.
Another achievement us was being nominated for a Family Business of the Year Awards. Our Managing Director, Kate Gibson was also named as a ‘Family Business Top 100,’ which recognises the exceptional contribution of individuals and their work within a family business.
Looking forward to 2023, we are so excited to launch our new puzzles when we’re back in January, we hope you love them as much as we do! We’re also looking forward to seeing your friendly faces at Toy Fair, Nuremberg International Toy Fair and Spring Fair.
From everyone at Gibsons we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
