We are delighted to announce that Kate Gibson of Gibsons has been included within the inaugural Family Business United ‘Family Business Top 100,’ which recognises the exceptional contribution of individuals and their work within a family business.

Recognition in respect of:

  • Inspirational Leadership
  • Next Generation
  • Multi-Generational Family Business Leader
  • Champion of Change & Innovation

2019 marked 100 years since Harry Percy Gibson formed H. P. Gibson & Sons Limited. Now into the fourth generation with Harry’s great-granddaughter at the helm, Gibsons are proud of their British heritage and are still providing fun family pastimes for all ages so many years later.

The team and product offering have grown a lot over the last ten decades, however their values remain the same. ‘Bringing people together’ underpins everything they do: from encouraging people to play games, and creating a positive working culture, to supporting a local children’s charity and valuing the relationships with their suppliers and customers.

Kate is the Managing Director and an inspirational leader, developing a culture that embraces the past and at the same time looks to the future.  She cares passionately about the people around her and encourages everyone to be the best they can be.  Her pride and passion for what they do is tangible and she is fully deserving of her place in the Family Business Top 100.

Kate Gibson states, “It’s a real honour to be recognised in the top 100 alongside the leaders of many fantastic family businesses. Leading a family owned business has it's own unique challenges – you have to use your head and your heart. It’s not always an easy job, but its extremely rewarding and I feel very lucky to continue my great-grandfather’s legacy.”

Paul Andrews, Founder of Family Business United, states, “Family businesses are the backbone of the UK economy and often the unsung heroes too.  Family firms are significant contributors to the economy in terms of jobs provided, income generated and wealth created and behind each family firm are individuals driving them, making decisions and looking to the future.  Family firms take the long term view and invest in their businesses and the communities in which they operate and we wanted to create the Family Business Top 100 to recognise outstanding individuals within these organisations and to shine a light on the people that are making a difference within the business and more broadly too.”

“What better way to celebrate the vibrancy of a sector than to highlight the people within family businesses, leading from the front, fulfilling a role as a steward for future generations, those developing sustainable practices and acting as innovators and agents of change, the next generation embarking on key initiatives that will drive the next stage in the family business journey and those that have delivered a lifetime of service and commitment to the family business.  Each and every one of them deserves to be recognised and celebrated.  It is these individuals and the family firms they are associated with that is at the very heart of what we do – championing family firms across the whole of the UK and beyond.”
