International Women’s Day – Celebrating with Rachel Emma Waring
Posted on

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we want to shine the light on our female artists to discover what inspires, drives and motivates them in their work. In the lead up to International Women’s Day on the 8th March, we are sharing mini-interviews with our artists and designers which we hope will empower our followers to champion women and take action for equality.

Today's interview is with stylist Rachel Emma Waring who has recently joined the Gibsons puzzle collection with Paper Flowers.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

A: I’m Rachel, founder of Rachel Emma Studio, and I’m a wedding stylist and paper artist. I designed the Paper Flowers puzzle with Gibsons, which was one of my favourite creative projects to date.

Q: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I wanted to be a marine biologist because I love stingrays, or a music therapist. Two very different things from what I’m doing now!

Q: Why did you choose to become a designer?

A: I realised that most of my favourite memories were from experiences that included immersive designs - like museums, theatre, galleries and even theme parks. I wanted to be a part of creating that feeling of wonder for other people, so I trained in set design for theatre before choosing to focus my career on wedding design later on.

Q: What motivates you to work for yourself and be an entrepreneur?

A: I love the flexibility, and being able to build my career in a way that works for me. I can’t imagine doing anything else now!

Q: What’s your biggest achievement?

A: I think building a sustainable business that supports me full time is my biggest achievement. It definitely hasn’t been easy but it’s very much worth it to be able to do what I love every day.

Q: Who is a woman you admire and why?

A: Marie Forleo - I love that she’s unapologetically herself, and her teachings about business have played a huge part in where I am today.
