A Year in Review - 2018
21st December 2018
Wow, what a year! 2018 has been an incredible one and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us, from our wonderful retailers, to our warehouse staff and our jigsaw puzzle fans!
We also re-launched Francis Tresham's epic game, Civilization, which started with a fantastic launch party in March at board game club The Library Pot. It also received a tremendous reception at UK Games Expo in June and was even awarded best Strategic Game!
In 2018 we sponsored many, many jigsaw festivals which brought local communities together and celebrated our favourite pastime…puzzling. Also in the summer, eight of the Gibsons team took part in a charity triathlon in the Summer to raise money for the children's charity, Jigsaw4U. The team has a fantastic time and want to thank The Toy Trust for organising a brilliant event.
A lot changed for the Gibsons team too. Two of our lovely employees began their maternity leave in the Spring, which meant that two new members joined the team. Then due to our success as a business, we expanded by another two members in the summer, which has allowed us to welcome four new additions to the Gibsons team in 2018, making our office brighter than ever before!
From a business point of view, we've had a mammoth year, with market research company NPD reporting that we have been the UK’s No.1 performing adult puzzles manufacturer every month this year based on velocity sales. What's more, their data also revealed that we were the No.1 jigsaw manufacturer for adults in the UK for value in the month of November 2018, with our sales increasing by 13% (year on year sales, Nov 2018 vs Nov 2017). Finally, The NPD Group’s data showed that our Christmas Limited Edition puzzle, Driving Home For Christmas, was No.1 best-selling adult jigsaw puzzle in the UK, out-selling all other adult jigsaw puzzles and accessories! (by rate of sale, Sept-Nov 2018).
2019 marks 100 years since Gibsons was founded by Harry Percy Gibson in May 1919 and we are thrilled to have ended the year on such a high. We want to thank you again for your support and wish you a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years… roll on 2019!
